Important Care Precautions

Our products are crafted by experienced artisans with the finest materials.  To best preserve your product, please prevent any contact with oil or alcohol-based substances such as cosmetics, perfumes, hand sanitizers or disinfectants.

Welcome

The Paul Eldane article in your possession is crafted from a meticulous selection of the most exquisite materials by experienced artisans in our Ateliers. It was designed in accordance to the highest standards of quality and expertise that are true hallmarks of our house. Your product is very precious to us and deserves the same care and affection from you each and every day. With such consideration, and a few simple precautions, you may enjoy your Paul Eldane product for many years to come.

To keep your Paul Eldane product beautiful as the years pass, it is best to rotate its use periodically. This will allow the product adequate time to rest as frequent, uninterrupted, and generous wear may cause the materials to break down in an untimely manner.

Leather is best kept away from elements such as water, oil, perfume direct heat and light, humidity, or environments that are too hot or too cold. Prolonged exposure to such elements may provoke unwanted damage or premature wear. When in contact with water, wipe immediately with a soft cloth to avoid saturation.

Repeated contact with hard or rough surfaces (rocks, floors, carpets, rugs, walls) may cause the appearance of scratches and worn grain on corners and areas of greatest wear. Prolonged contact to dark or highly pigmented materials can transfer onto the surface of your leather product. It is best to limit the exposure to such surfaces and materials to preserve the original look and feel of your product.

At Paul Eldane we take pride in our heritage, savoir-faire, and the exceptional care services we are able to offer our clients. We are happy to provide additional information or services to your pieces

Leather Goods

Introduction to Leather Goods

Throughout the life of your product, you may notice a softening of the silhouette and a naturally occurring patina. This evolution along with the presence of natural aspects such as natural marks, wrinkles and veins are anticipated and serve as proof of the uniqueness and authenticity of our products. Each impression leaving a lasting memory to be cherished forever.

To preserve the shape of your product, it should not be over-packed. When product is not in use, it is best to store it in the pouch provided at purchase in a ventilated area. Storage in boxes or near sources of heat are not recommended as it has a drying effect on the materials.

Natural Leather

This natural, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather, is deeply rooted in Paul Eldane. A hallmark of this leather is its transparency, which reveals natural markings such as veins and wrinkles, proving it has not been treated. This delicate, easily scratched leather will develop a rich amber patina, unique to each product, and a greater suppleness in time.  This patina, along with wear acquired through use, signifies proof of the product’s authenticity and journey alongside the owner.

Should this leather encounter water, blot immediately with a lint-free light coloured, absorbent cloth. Cleaning with any solvents or chemicals is not recommended. Home remedies to darken the leather such as mink oil, saddle soap, leather lotions, or substances of any kind should be avoided at all costs. If the leather gets stained before the patina develops, do not try to clean it. Let it darken and stains will fade among the colour. These chemicals can compromise the quality and integrity of the leather as it wears in time.

Calfskin and Cowhide Leathers

Through a rigorous selection process, calfskin and cowhide leathers are chosen for their refinement, suppleness and silky touch. To meet Paul Eldane’s highest quality standards, only the best hides are selected. They may carry natural imperfections, such as veins or wrinkles.

These carefully selected leathers can be compromised with the use of any commercial cleaners. Elements such as oils, make up, perfumes, creams or sanitizers applied to the leather can compromise its natural beauty and performance capabilities. For surface stains, we recommend cleaning with a soft, damp cloth with water.

Shoes

Introduction to Shoe Care

Crafted from beautifully selected leathers, Paul Eldane shoes are the perfect blend of sophistication and savoir-faire, passed down through generations of dedicated craftsmen. These natural and living materials need to be regularly cared for so that you may fully appreciate their beauty and comfort for years to come.

It is best to rotate your shoes every two days of consecutive wear. This will allow the leather fibers adequate air and rest. When not in use, store in the pouch provided at purchase in a dry place away from any direct heat source. To preserve the shape of shoes, we suggest storing with a shoe tree after each use.

Contact with water or products containing solvents, oily or abrasive elements should be avoided as they may cause unwanted staining or blisters. When putting on your shoes, a shoehorn is suggested to avoid damaging the material in the back of the heel. For proper maintenance, be sure to have the toplifts (the bottom of the heel, made generally in rubber, in direct contact with the ground) of your shoes changed periodically to prevent from becoming too worn down as this can become very slippery to the wearer.

By taking care of your Paul Eldane shoes in this way, you will be able to wear them for many years and fully appreciate their beauty and comfort. Do not hesitate to contact us. Our specialized customer care associates are at your disposal to guide you and answer your questions.

Smooth or Grained Leathers

For cleaning grained leather, wipe any surface stains with a soft damp cloth. Once the leather is dry, polish it in circular strokes using a high quality colourless cream and a soft cloth.

Patent Leathers

Patent leathers can be cleaned with a soft dampened light coloured cloth and then dried with a clean cloth. To avoid colour migration, limit contact with other leathers or highly pigmented colours.

Metallic Leathers

Metallic leathers can be cleaned with the help of a soft and dry cloth.

Exotic Leathers

Exotic leathers can be cleaned with a soft and dry cloth and then polished, in the direction of the scales, using a high quality colourless cream. These leathers are delicate and very sensitive to humidity. If at anytime they do come into contact with water, sponge them carefully with a soft absorbent cloth.

Goat Suede, Calf Suede and Nubuck Leathers

Suede and nubuck leathers can be maintained with a soft shoe brush to preserve the velvety texture. If shoes have been in contact with water, please allow ample time to dry before cleaning. In case of superficial stains, a rubber brush may be used.

Pony Styled Calf Leathers

These precious and delicate calf leathers have kept all their natural hair due to a special tanning process. The eventual colour shades thus demonstrate this authenticity. To clean pony styled leathers, use a soft and lightly dampened cloth and always respect the direction of the hair. Avoid repeated rubbing with abrasive objects (trouser hems, brushes…) which may alter the smooth appearance of the calf hair.

Vegan Leathers

Vegan leathers can be cleaned with the help of a soft and dry cloth.

Fabric

Fabric and leather shoes, or fully fabric shoes, must never be washed by soaking in water or in a washing machine. This would cause damage or migration of colour and can detach the sole from the shoe.

The lighter coloured textiles still remain susceptible to staining. Once your textile shoes have been cleaned, please leave them to dry in the air before putting them away in their felt pouch.

The cotton canvas can be cleaned with the help of a brush or a lightly dampened cloth.

The satin can be cleaned with the help of a very lightly dampened cloth using gentle circular movements. Because this is a delicate material, please avoid rubbing it too hard so as not to remove the anti-stain treatment. Further care should be taken not to scratch this fabric against abrasive surfaces.

Made of goatskin or calfskin leather, suede insocks and linings are extremely delicate. They are specially treated to stabilise the colour pigments, but there is still a risk of colour release, which is due to their natural finishing.
